Personal news

I've recently gotten a new place to live after my roommate threw me out on 11/30 and I won't have easy access to the internet anymore, at least until the app is up and running, so any updates are going to be sparse for the foreseeable future.

Fox amigurumi, the larger

So, the first picture is what it'll look like once finished and is from the designer's website.

The second and third pictures are two different points of progress on the body. The third is the current progress.

The last three pictures are the cotton scarf I'm doing in intarsia because I'd never done intarsia before and the pattern called for it. So, practice!

I hate life so much right now.

I've had a migraine for three(3) days at this point.

Knitting and crochet

demoncat13 -

So, the things I make

Knitting:

  • scarfs/cowls
  • hats
  • shawls
  • gloves (fingerless only atm)
  • bags (makeup/messenger/handbag. no backpacks atm.)
  • socks/legwarmers
  • coasters/placemats

Stitches:

  • basic (garter/stockinette/rib)
  • lace (not all stitches yet, currently in intermediate)
  • cable (basic only I'm afraid atm, I'm still working on traveling cables)
  • fair isle (basic patterns only atm, haven't had much time to practice because lace)
  • there are probably others I can't think of atm

Crochet:

  • scarfs/cowls
  • hats
  • legwarmers
  • bags (same as knitting, although backpacks might end up more a thing here)
  • blankets
  • coasters/placemats

Stitches:

  • basic (single ch/half double ch/double ch/treble ch)
  • note: hdc is my favorite stitch to crochet
  • decorative (ie, popcorn/puff)
  • working on things like post stitches but diagrams can be confusing so...

Will be posting pic examples of what's on my needles over the weekend.

demoncat13 -

As a current note: knit cables hurt me when doing them so any commissions for knit cables will take longer than other pieces.

Crochet cables, on the other hand, don't hurt when used so will take less time to do. Also worked-out post stitches for crochet... well front-post anyway.

demoncat13 -

Figured out back-post stitches for crochet!

Now working on intarsia!

Quick update

I'm currently working on a commission for my mom so my personal projects like Sherbert are on hold.

I'll post an update on mom's large fox commission once I've figured out how to intarsia since that's a thing the pattern calls for.

I'm learning the intarsia by making a 30 stitch scarf, 15 stitches for each color, in Lily Sugar'n Cream Black Currant and Teal. The Black Currant is grape colored.

Further Unicorn Progress

demoncat13 -

I finished the body and the ears today and am currently stitching it together.

I'll reblog with the pictures later today or tomorrow, there are a lot of pictures because I've been taking them after each piece has been stitched on.

demoncat13 -

COMPLETE!!! Now for pictures and bonus Mick Aston from Time Team! I was watching Time Team while sewing...

The head(with ears) and body ^

The horn attached plus the body again ^

The mane attached ^

Neck attached plus legs ^

Tail attached ^ As a side note, it would have been better if I had attached the legs first...

Front legs ^

All legs attached ^

Right side ^

Left side ^

Soon to be whole ^

Nearly-Headless Unicorn! ...I couldn't resist ^

Front view ^

Right side view. Hi, Mick ^

Left side view. Hi, again Mick! ^

Back view ^

And a bonus picture of the scissors used for snipping ends. Appropriate, no?

Further Unicorn Progress

I finished the body and the ears today and am currently stitching it together.

I'll reblog with the pictures later today or tomorrow, there are a lot of pictures because I've been taking them after each piece has been stitched on.

Unicorn

I've got all four legs (the center), the mane and tail (the rainbows on each side), the horn (the beige thing to the lower left of the legs), the neck (the one on the left directly under the legs), and the head (to the right of the neck).

Now I just need the body and to sew the eyes on the head.

Then, of course, sew everything together... which feels like it will take longer than the knitting it won't.

Edit 11/13/19: I forgot about the ears.

Yarn caking, Knitting, and Personal update

First, yarn caking, that's the only thing I did today besides cleaning. I did... seven? cakes I think. I just recently got a ball winder. I have no idea why it's called a ball winder when it should be a cake winder. It's fun to use though. Usually, I can only do one or two balls by hand so doing seven is awesome.

Second, I'm knitting the unicorn kit, and have three out of four legs done. All of the mane and tail done. Once again there are mistakes but no errata. Also, barley had enough yarn to do both the mane and tail for one of the colors. I'll be doing more knitting on it tomorrow and I'll have progress pictures too.

My crafting has slowed down because I quit my job on Monday, management stopped talking to the department I worked for and I just couldn't deal with the customers sexually harassing me anymore. I'm currently looking for a new job, but I'll also be moving to the other side of the US sometime in Spring/Summer 2020 so during that time I might go a month without any updates.

Progress update, but no pictures today

Not for anything but the Fox, which has already been posted.

So, for Mars, I've decided to just do decreases. It's not going to have a lot of depth but it should have some good width. Interestingly the balls I have are wound opposite from each other, so it's looking cool.

Sherbert is... taking a while, but it is fingering weight yarn so it's not surprising. I don't spend a lot of time knitting it since I spend all day knitting or crocheting or both at work.

V-stitch is coming along well, I'm in the second ball I have for the yarn. It's about long enough to use as a placemat... For reference, the yarn is recycled silk... Machu Pichu.

Fox amigurumi

I'm just posting the fox amigurumi pictures today. This has taken me just over a week to do, which is interesting since it's not a lot of knitting or sewing.

Fun fact, well a few facts:

  1. There are some mistakes with the pattern I think I mentioned this before but they're easy to work around.
  2. I've been calling this "The Headless Foxman" until I started sewing the head on... now it's "The Nearly-headless Foxman"
  3. I'm giving it to a co-worker whose last name is... Fox. Yes, I have a horrible sense of humor.
  4. I have enough orange/white yarn and stuffing to make another fox... but no more black...
  5. Here's the kit if you want to make one yourself.

I have a unicorn kit, two frog kits, three watermelon kits, and another fox kit... I'm not sorry. They also have a cactus amigurumi kit if you're interested.

Late progress update

I still need to block Horseshoe. Haven't started on the parma violets yarn yet, mainly because I've been hurting again but I have been doing some knitting/crocheting.

I'm knitting a fox amigurumi. It feels smaller than it should. The pattern I'm working from has a few mistakes and no errata. Currently, have a tail, a body, a belly, and two arms. The belly, tail, and one arm have been stitched on... I was an idiot who didn't do the legs first...

The Mars shawl has had no progress because I'm trying to decide if I want to keep going with decreases or start reverse shaping for the other wing and have a lace panel in the center. No progress will be made until I've decided.

The Sherbert scarf has had some more work done on it. Still in the pink sections of the yarn. I will have some more done by Sunday, with pictures.

I started a v-stitch crochet thing just to learn the stitch. Not sure what I'm going to do with it though... yet...

That's all I'm working on at the moment. Will have pictures of fox progress once I get my phone to cooperate with my laptop.

Mini update for Horseshoe Lace

demoncat13 -

I have only one more repeat to go!!! πŸ™ŒπŸŽΆπŸ’–πŸŽ‰

Don't get me wrong it was fun to knit but, damn I can't wait to be able to block so I can see the full lace effect!

Also, I just realized today that my math was off when I said I was doing 800 stitches a day for each repeat... it's actually 1600... some days I just can't math.

-Demon

demoncat13 -

I've finished the lace and am halfway through the ribbing. I'll have that done Monday.

I also was mistaken in thinking I'd said 800 stitches... I forgot that was only something I was thinking... somedays I'm just a Mess.

I'm going to take another color called Parma Violets and doing more lace, the pattern is called Graceful Leaves.

demoncat13 -

Now I just have to bind off which will happen tomorrow because I'm going to use Tillybuddies bind off. I'd have had this done today but I had to leave work early due to meds making me sick.

I do have some comparison pictures for the cake ignore that the first is a different color since they're the same fiber content from the same maker, woollymamayarns.

That's a big hole... and why I didn't take it home to finish it.

demoncat13 -

The bind-off is complete!!

Now I just have to block the lace out.

I also got the cast-on and bind-off mixed up, cast-on is Tillybuddies and bind-off is Jenny's. Oops.

Pretty yarn

I ordered this yarn in two batches from ChemKnits Tutorials (ChemKnitsCreations on Etsy). It's a fingering weight yarn in the same colorway just two different dye lots. Here's the video of her dying the yarn. I forgot to take pictures of the hanks before caking them.

Both cakes are done by hand using two different methods. the first was done without any tools besides a swift. The second was done using the tp roll trick.

My current home project is a scarf it was supposed to be a stole but I didn't cast on enough stitches, whoops oh well using both yarns, matched up for color, in linen stitch on US 5 needles... this is going to take a while... it's looking really damn pretty though.

demoncat13 -

Here's a picture of what I have so far.

The right side is pulled in a little, but that's just the needle hanging off the chair arm, the needle is 36 inches long *shrugs*

Close up so the stitch pattern is clearer.

It's a lovely day to be asexual and proud of it

The pictures I should have had posted on Monday...

SO it took me until today to be able to transfer the pictures to my laptop. My damn phone likes to keep reconnecting every time you so much as look at it sideways.

In order, we have the full length of the Birthday scarf with a close up of the crochet stitches. The stitch pattern was two rows of double, one row of treble.

The next two are Jupiter all buttoned up followed by Jupiter's full length. Still debating on if I should edge it or not even though I had said I would.

Then current progress on the Hat Swatch, which is only taking so long because of the fact I can only knit high levels of mohair in certain conditions.

The two pictures of Horseshoe Lace are only one repeat different but I had a coworker hold the lace stretched so it's easier to see.

The last three are a single crochet shawl constructed from one wing to the other. It's in the same yarn as Jupiter and Ceres and the colorway is called Mars.

Progress update, but no pictures today

demoncat13 -

I don't have all the pictures on my laptop yet, so I can't post all of them yet.

Horseshoe Lace is up to 5 pattern repeats... which took four days... considering there are 200 stitches for the cowl and I do a full repeat... it's no wonder it takes me eight hours to complete just one repeat.

Ceres Lace is almost complete, just the last bit of blue and then the leaf green, followed by an edging. I'm going to need a new crochet project, aren't I? I'm tossing the idea of stitching both Ceres together with buttons on one end but I'm not sure yet.

The Lavender Fairy Hat swatch is coming along nicely. I'm almost done with the 1x1 rib and will be doing US seed and stockinette stitch for the next two swatch sections. I'm not sure which stitch I want to use.

Let's see... oh, right! I also was working on a cowl yeah, yeah I know at home, I'm calling it Leaning Doors in Florence, and I finished it Friday. The stitch pattern is called Leaning Doors and the yarn is called Florence... yes, I am aware I'm not very good at naming things. It only took three repeats of the lace pattern to finish, granted each repeat is twenty rows. Naturally, since I had half the cake left I cast on another.

I think that's all I'm working on at the moment, besides the silk shawl. So I'll post pictures tomorrow once I have the chance to take pictures of what's at work.

Pictures I've been meaning to post

First two pictures are of the Horseshoe lace. I had to use the yarn bowl to get the lace stretched so I could take the picture.

The third picture is Ceres Lace current length well I did four more rows after the picture was taken...

The fourth picture is simply a close up of the accidental lace panels.

The current last picture is of Jupiter's current length. I'll be finishing up with the buttonhole section by Sunday. I'll edit with the finished/pre-blocking picture once I have.

I'll also post the picture of the birthday scarf once it's been washed/dried.

@coffeeandyarn I've got another repeat of the horseshoe lace and have finished the next leaf green section of the Ceres Lace, Jupiter is finished but not washed/blocked and the buttonholes were a Pain, and the Bday scarf is delivered to its owner.
